We think this article will be useful for you to understand whether those who sell cheap products think about you or are we greedy.

If you want to use duvet cover sets that are long lasting, do not turn gray after a few washes, and create satisfaction for your customers when touched, let’s first examine how to obtain quality bed sheet fabric.

Let’s start by listing the factors that determine the quality in bed sheet fabric.

– Type of cotton yarn used
– Origin of cotton
– The way the yarn is produced
– Dyeing / Finishing
– Yarn count
– Garment operations

When the only criterion that both the seller and the buyer focuses on is the number of threads, we can say that poor quality products dominate the market in general. Did you wonder where the thread comes from? What type of chemicals has it been treated with? When both the seller and the buyer do not question this, it should not be surprising that the products produced with the sheets will tear, shrink and turn yellow when everyone looks at the money they have bought and given!

Cotton yarn and production techniques used in bed sheet fabric

Cotton

There is so much to tell about cotton. If we try to explain the types and qualities one by one, it contains enough topics to open a website on its own. We will focus more on hotel textiles and products sold in our country.
The biggest factor affecting the quality and price of cotton is fiber length. The longer the fiber, the longer the thread; this increases the fabric quality.

Egyptian cotton; It can be described as the best quality cotton due to the suitability of the climatic conditions of the region where it is grown. A single sheet woven with high quality corn cotton sells for 60-200 dollars in America and Europe. If there are those who claim to sell fabrics woven with Egyptian cotton for less than these prices, we recommend that you do not take it seriously and continue your search.

American cotton; It is of very high quality due to modern production techniques. We prefer American cotton in terms of quality-price balance in our tablecloth production. The fibers are reasonably long and a high-strength yarn is obtained. Contrary to popular belief, cotton produced not only in the USA but also in Mexico is considered as American cotton.

Pakistani, Indian and Chinese cottons; They are classified as low quality. Its fibers are very short. The biggest factor in this is the climatic characteristics and the use of old-style agricultural techniques. Yellowish or brown fibers are common. Therefore, the quality and price of the products in these countries are very low.

Cotton Yarn Types

– Open-End Yarns; They are yarns with low strength, produced according to the open-end spinning system, with a maximum thickness of Ne 30/1. They are used frequently in many apparel, home and hotel textiles, and are the type of yarn that has the lowest price.

– Carded Ring Yarns;
They are non-combed yarns produced from short cotton fibers. Their strength is higher than open-end yarns. Carded ring yarns with a rough structure are generally used in bed linen / bedding, towels, blue jeans, home and hotel textiles and are of medium quality.

-Combed cotton ring yarns; It is the best quality cotton threads. As the name suggests, they are used in high-quality linen fabrics such as combed cotton, shirts, jackets, sportswear. It is cleaner and homogeneous compared to carded yarn. Its strength is better than open-end and carded Ring yarns.

Finishing / dyeing techniques used in bed sheet fabric;

In general, the finishing stages applied to bed sheet fabrics are as follows.

1-) Pretreatment Processes;

– Burning and desizing
– Bleaching in the bleaching machine
– Mercerizing process
– Drying

2-) Coloring

Reactive dyes are dye chemicals used to obtain bright colors in cotton fabric. With reactive dye, permanent dye with high washing resistance is obtained.
– Adhesive chemicals called “binder” are used to adhere the pigment dye to the yarn. If your fabrics give color during washing and lose their vitality in a short time, it means they are dyed with this cheap dyeing method.

3-) Finishing operations;

– The fabric is taken with the sanforizing process. If the sanforizing is kept short, if the process is done randomly, the finished product will continue to draw.
– Softness is given to the fabric with the touch process.

After the weaving process, the sheet fabric goes to the dyehouse. Since there are various cotton and yarn qualities, the same finishing recipe is not applied to every sheet fabric. If the product goes to an unconscious dyehouse and the necessary laboratory studies have not been done, and if the finishing / dyeing processes are done with cheap Far East chemicals, quality fabric will not be obtained.

If you are aware, we have not yet come to the famous thread count at the center of all bargains. We can easily say that; Pakistan, India and imported from China, compared with 82 wire sheeting fabric, woven with the Turkish cotton is treated in paint shops in Turkey 52 wire sheeting fabric is better quality.

The number of threads / wires in the bed sheet fabric

Up to approximately 157 wires (1 cm2) can be placed on the loom. Since the fabric will shrink in sanforizing during the finishing process, this value can be up to 180 wires. It is used to make quality shirts of 120 strings and above.

Very high quality home quilt cover sets of 80 – 120 strings can be made. However, when it comes to hotels, it is necessary to be careful in choosing the number of wires.

As the number of wires increases, the strength increases. In addition, a softer touch can be obtained with fabrics with high wire counts, as the threads are thin. However, if bed sheets are to be purchased for the accommodation service, frequent washing, an unaccounted factor in home textiles, must be considered. Frequent washing is the enemy of fine yarn.

Lime and other particles in the water, chemicals in detergents will penetrate the fabric during almost every day washing process in hotels, causing thin threads to weaken and even break through friction.

To increase the number of strands per square centimeter, it is necessary to thin the thread. As the number of strands increases, the diameter of the thread will become thinner. As the yarn becomes thinner, it will wear out early and tears will occur during frequent washing.

Based on our experience, we can easily say that 52/64 and 72 wire bed linen fabrics woven with American or Turkish cotton in Turkey, processed in domestic and high-quality dyehouses give excellent results.
