Properties of Yarns Used in Towel Fabric

There are two types of warp threads in the towel. These are ground warp and pile warp yarn

Ground Warp Yarn

These yarns should have the characteristics of double-ply 100% cotton 600–750 turns / m twist. Usually 20/2 and 24/2 Ne yarns are used. In recent years, 12/1 Ne yarns have been used.

Pile Warp Thread

These threads give water retention feature in towels. The pile threads should be very soft. The lengths of the fibers used in the production of pile yarns are 33 mm should be longer than. This is due to the fact that long-staple yarns are less twisted and more robust yarn can be spun than shorter-staple yarns. Although pile yarns are usually single ply, 20/2, 24/2, 18/2 Ne yarns are used for special cases. The yarn numbers usually used should be 16/1, 20/1, 24/1 Ne, combed yarn or carded yarn. The twist of double ply yarns is up to 300 laps / m. Usually 220 to 260 turns / m are used.

Weft Thread

Weft yarn 16/1, 20/1 Ne yarns are used. Weft yarn consists of a single layer of cotton yarn. If the towel is desired to be of high quality, ring yarn is preferred. It can be used on openend yarn to cost the towel cheaply. A loose pile or loop warp rests on a stretched basic warp thread. During the weaving process, the pile warp slides over the basic warp so that the loops of the additional warp threads remain on the surface so that pile weaving is obtained.

The typical feature of pile tissue is that it is closed with loops on one or both sides of the tissue. In these textures, two-sided warp yarn is used.
